Biography
CONQUERORS QUARTET: Based in Evansville, IN, this exciting Southern Gospel
group has been thrilling audiences with its traditional style and sound
since 1990. Over the years, a
recognizable group of supportive followers have emerged to rally for the
Conquerors. This faithful group of supporters has continually
encouraged the quartet to "Keep On Keeping On!" Although faced with unexpected changes and overwhelming
challenges, The Conquerors have experienced the divine presence and manifested
handiwork of God in giving leadership and guidance through the midst of the
storms! Down
through the years, He has continued to raise up willing servants to help in building His kingdom.
The missing pieces from the chiseled pillars of the foundation He has so
intricately filled and smoothly covered! The Conquerors have learned that real joy comes from trusting Him to
supply all of their needs. The realization of this truth inspired them to
entitle one of their projects -- PURE JOY.
MINISTRY: The Conquerors’ main mission is to bring praise and glory to
their Lord by reaching out to others with a message in song that is uplifting,
inspiring, and life-changing. They welcome opportunities to share their ministry
with people from different faiths and backgrounds in various places, reaching
both the churched and the un-churched. However, the church has been the
Conquerors’ primary focus.
STYLE AND SOUND: Although the style is unmistakably Southern Gospel, there is
variety in the quartet’s song selection for each program that covers a wide
spectrum of material. Singing a solid four-part harmony, the group possesses a
professional quality
sound with incredible versatility. The C.Q. Band, a favorite attraction,
generates excitement and enthusiasm. The Conquerors’ music captures the
hearts and captivates the attention of the young and old alike.
APPEARANCES: Over the years, The Conquerors Quartet has graced the stage in
concert halls and auditoriums with a number of full-time groups and well-known
soloists of the industry--Heaven Bound, Jeff and Sheri Easter, The New Hinsons,
The Crabb Family, Gold City, The Kingsmen, Southern Sound, Ernie Haase & The Signature
Sound Quartet, The Mystery Men Quartet, The Crossmen, Allison Speer, and
Garry Sheppard.
PROJECTS: The Conquerors have produced seven recording projects:
More Than Conquerors, Keep On Keeping On, Fifth Anniversary, Conquerors'
Compilation, Welcome Home, Pure Joy and their latest Sanctified Journey.
They are excited about one of
their originals, Sanctified
Hanky Wavin' recently receiving national airplay!
VOCALISTS: God has continued to bless the
quartet with multi-talented individuals who possess wide-range
solo voices and great harmonizing abilities. Having members fully capable
of singing other parts--than just their own--has certainly helped to keep the
quartet moving forward. After singing lead for three years, Andy Roberts,
in 2005, switched to the bass position. That same, Paul Rigdon, a great
baritone and excellent guitarist, joined the group to add another dimension to
the group's versatility. When Roger Sweeney stepped out to sing tenor again in
2006, he brought to the group a seasoned voice of fine quality along with a fan
club who wanted to hear it! Andrew Goldman, a young man with exceptional
talent, has been singing lead for The Conquerors for the past year. Upon
occasion, he has filled in on drums for the group and has done an outstanding
job!
Andy Roberts, from Greenville, Kentucky, now
sings bass for The Conquerors. Blessed with incredible vocal ability, he can sing from
the bass to the tenor range with remarkable quality! His singing continues to amaze audiences
everywhere! As a soloist, Andy
has won talent contests and has performed at numerous Gospel Music events in various
states. As a favorite guest soloist at the Gloryfest in
Gatlinburg, TN, he continues each year to share the stage with many
professional top-named artists/groups of the industry. Recently, he
completed a solo project, Songs of Heaven and Hope -- now
available on C.D. The Conquerors feel blessed to
have a talented and committed member such as Andy on their team.
Paul T. Rigdon, from Henderson, Kentucky, sings baritone with the
Conquerors Quartet. His last group, “Hearts Afire!” had quite a following
in the region just a few years ago. Though Paul has enjoyed playing, writing
and singing a variety of musical styles, he returns his focus now to his first
love: Southern Gospel. At the prospect of replacing the beloved David Ice in the baritone position,
Paul says, “I am certainly honored to be called on to sing with the
Conquerors, because the standard has been set so high. I know that I will
never be able to fill the void left by Dave’s being called home to Glory. But
what I hope to do is to take up the “mantle” that he left behind, to sing
and serve and minister to the Body of Christ with the same level of anointing
that he had. I am looking forward to an exciting time!”
Roger Sweeney hails from Elkton, KY and is widely
recognized as a tremendous tenor. His anointed singing and kind
spirit quickly captures the hearts of each listening audience. Roger holds a Bachelor of Arts
Degree in music from Trevecca in Nashville. Although he has studied
various kinds of music, Gospel Quartet Music remains his favorite. In
1983, he traveled full time with the Brotherhood Quartet based in
Campbellsville, KY. Later, forming the Sweeney Family, he and his wife,
Euleta, (along with their children) started their own ministry. Roger sang
tenor with Southern Sound Quartet based in Nashville for over seven years.
His talent, experience, and Christian leadership has proven to be a great asset
to the ministry of the Conquerors.
Andrew Goldman, the only "Hoosier" vocalist
in our group lives in Poseyville, IN. Although this outstanding young man has
sung lead for the Conquerors for only one year, he has been "hanging
out" with the group's members during rehearsals and concerts for almost
eighteen years! His father Dave, an eleven year/original member, began traveling and singing with the quartet when Andrew was six-months
old. It has been exciting to watch him grow up and become the fine Christian
role model he is today! In addition to traveling with the Conquerors,
Andrew assumes roles of leadership in his church as well as in his school and
community. He is a multi-talented singer/performer who
possesses musical skill and ability far beyond his years. He loves singing and
playing Southern Gospel Music, but above all-- he loves the Lord!
MUSICIANS:
Joyce Meyer, keyboardist, has accompanied and recorded with
several gospel groups and solo artists throughout the years. She is a stylistic player who enjoys
playing the fast-moving quartet songs as well as the hymns of the church. At the
early age of 5, she began playing "by ear" the hymns her mother played
at the little country church her family attended. Remembering her roots,
she reflects upon her church heritage and its impact in one of her original
songs--Sanctified Hanky Wavin'. During the 70's, she played piano for a
mixed-trio, The Regal Sound, and later in the 80's, she accompanied The
Noblemen Quartet with whom Ernie Haase got his start in Southern Gospel Music--singing tenor.
Chris Meyer, an accomplished bass-player and Gospel Music
enthusiast, has been a member of the group since its formation. As a young child
and later a teenager, he traveled with his parents, Joyce and Mike, attending
countless Southern Gospel concerts at large venues to see groups such as The
Kingsmen, Cathedrals, and various others. As a result, Chris became
personally acquainted with many legends in the field and still vividly recalls
some of the memorable road trips he took with big Jim Hamill and The Kingsmen
Quartet! Tim Surrett, a former Kingsmen, (his all-time favorite player) has been
a
constant source of inspiration. All of these experiences left indelible
impressions as to the makings of a good quartet.
Jason Welch, from Henderson, KY, plays drums for The
Conquerors. Having grown up in a musical family, Jason was introduced to
Southern Gospel Music at an early age. Although he enjoys playing a number of
different instruments, drumming has remained his passion. During the time
Jason traveled and performed with his parents' group, God Sent, he learned to play additional
instruments such as saxophone, harmonica, bass, and piano. Another talent
Jason possesses is songwriting. He claims his songs have evolved from the trials
and hard times God has helped him overcome.
EMPOWERMENT: November 2004 marked the beginning of the group's reconstruction due to Mike
Meyer, the founder and leader, being called to Glory. Only four months later, (
March of 2005)--David Ice, the quartet's original baritone at the
age of 42, went to be with the Lord. In March of 2007, Charlie Drennan, a
fifteen year/original member, who had continued to fill in and support the
group--even after his retirement--joined Heaven's choir. Experiencing the unexpected passing of
three original members has brought heartache but not defeat--it has been Heaven's gain!
Members left to carry on the ministry have
become personally reacquainted with the name --"Conquerors."
In the hearts and minds of each of those members, -- being a Conqueror --
has taken on a whole new meaning! Through God's wondrous grace and much
fervent prayer, they have experienced empowerment by the Holy Spirit to
continue. They have witnessed the touch of God's hand in providing
talented individuals to meet each and every challenge. The Conquerors have
been richly blessed and spiritually strengthened as never before!
IMPACT: Throughout their
ministry, The Conquerors have seen souls
won for the Kingdom, as well as lives touched and rededicated. Many people have
purchased their recordings to share with others who need their spirits
lifted. If the Lord has used the Conquerors Quartet to touch people's
hearts and change lives, then all of their effort has been worthwhile! The Conquerors wish to give God all the glory, honor, and
praise for their ministry!.
"WE ARE MORE THAN CONQUERORS THROUGH HIM WHO LOVED US." (Romans 8:37)
