2-01-2010

Greetings from the Driver,
Well, it is time for me to say something about our being into 2010. First of all, HAPPY NEW YEAR! Next, it is getting off to a "slow start" for us, but that is quite alright. We've enjoyed attending our home churches for a while. When things start to pick up later in the winter and on into the spring and summer seasons, we will get busy! We are looking forward to going out into the highways and yes, the byways too. When you are sitting in the seat of that 45 foot coach, some of them really get to be by-ways!

It was super nice for Sue and me to be at our home church on New Year's Eve with The Conquerors.  We sure did have a lot of our supporters on hand even though it was extremely cold that night. Just goes to show you that our friends and fans believe in our group, and for that we are truly grateful.

When the bus pulled into the First Christian Church in Hanover, IN., I asked the rest of  "the gang" --  "Don't you think that the Johnsons will come?"  They all agreed, and they were right.  Well, I want you to know that by the time I had turned the bus around and parked it, they were there. What great supporters they are!  Oh Yeah, and you too, Donnie. We were glad to have all of them with us. That was a good trip for me!  Although I was pretty tired, we made the trip just great. I did not attend the concert that night. Instead, I chose to put on my loungers & sweat shirt to get some much needed rest in the bus. I had gotten in from my week on the road that morning at 8:00 a.m. and had left from the "bus barn" at 12:45 p.m. for Hanover. We stopped on the way home that night at the Pilot at Leavenworth, IN. to top off the fuel.  Everyone, except Roger I believe, got off the bus and went in to get some snacks while I was fueling.  You see, I have to keep track of who gets off the bus and who gets back on, before I leave the station.  It was really an enjoyable trip home that night. I just pulled the privacy curtain and let the rest of them talk, play loud music, or whatever!  I took care of the job at hand. We had picked up Mason on the way at The Denny's in Dale, IN., so, when we left the Pilot at the 92 m/m, I told Mason, "Next stop, Dale, IN. eta 35 min." Man, what a professional I am! Nothing like "tooting my own horn"-- right?"

Now, on a more serious note! Tragedy has come to the Goldman Family with the unexpected death of Tracy's brother. I will not go into details about the matter, but, it will affect their whole family for a long time. At this time, I do know how they feel and what they are going through. I have experienced it first hand. Sometimes when people say, "I know what you are going through," --  they mean well, but really have no clue what it's really like.  Just please pray for their family at this sad time. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the whole family.

I know Bro. Jim Johnson is already sending out e-mails about our upcoming concert at The First Christian Church in Newburgh, IN. on Feb. 27, and we want to thank him for that. Please make plans to attend. We want to have a large turnout so invite everyone you know to go with you.

Another date you need to write on your calendar is Friday, March 12, (7:00 p.m.) -- Benefit for Shannon Childress at Grapevine Baptist Church in Madisonville, KY.  The address is 85 Sandcut.  Southern Sound and The Childress Family will be singing with us that evening.

We have a weekend road trip coming up in April which I am looking forward to. I will probably get to brush up on my driving skills some on that trip!  We will be going down into northeast Arkansas & southern Missouri. From personal experience, I have found Arkansas to have some hills & winding roads.

Until next time friends, please keep The Conquerors in your prayers. Things have been great over the past year for which we are very thankful. We are very thankful for your support and prayers. I will try to keep those wheels rolling safely and comfortably.
Take Care!
Ben Brewer

Greetings to All of our CQ Supporters,

Well, here goes with Volume 2 of "View from the Windshield."  I've gotten a little behind on getting this thing off the ground, but I know that some of you have been receiving my newsletters via e-mail. I appreciate hearing from you.  Newsletters are in the process of getting posted on the website. Please be patient!
Last weekend (Nov. 14 & 15) we were back in the great commonwealth of Kentucky. It seems we have a great support group in that state. Saturday evening found us in Owensboro, KY at the Owensboro Christian Church with our fiend, Art Jackson.  It was a beautiful evening at a lovely church.  After the concert we all headed out to the Real Hacienda to eat (which is what we do 2nd best). I would like to "put in a plug" for that place. It seems as though we normally go to a Mexican Restaurant afterwards, but I really believe that place offers the best Mexican food I have ever eaten. From the chips & salsa right on through the main course, it was great! Well, let's move on & get off the food subject.
At 2:45 Sunday afternoon,  the bus wheels rolled again. This time we headed down to Hanson, KY to be with the great folk of the Olive Branch Baptist Church. What a nice facility they have. Our Buddy Ben Morelock was with us & sang a great song at the beginning of the service. Ben helps us a lot with the set-up/tear-down of the equipment. He is usually with us on most of our road trips.  Also, It was good to have Jamey & Teresa Childress Lutz in the audience that evening.  They are a very important part of The Childress Family. I appreciate having my wife Sue along on our trips.  She is a great supporter-- not only of the CQ-- but also of me and my occupation.  Some of you may not know about my job during the week.  I drive a truck OTR during the week. While most of you are sleeping America is still moving & I do 90% of my driving at night. Just remember, if you got it, a truck brought it. Everything we have moves by truck!
This past weekend (Nov. 21) found us in Tell City, IN. with The Sonshiners & The Woodsmen. They are two more great groups. In fact, we will be with The Woodsmen again this coming Friday at The River Park Centre in Owensboro, KY. as a part of the Gospel on the River/Friday after 5 series. I think  this will be the last one of the year.  Hopefully, you will receive this in time to make plans to be with us. Remember to check our schedule section of the website
conquerorsquartet.com to find out if we are going to be in driving distance for you to come & be with us. We have some great supporters that no matter how far it is, they will be right there on the front row supporting us. Thanks Jim, Sue, & Donnie.
We would ask that you please remember CQ in your prayers. Everything has gone so great, and all of us have been so richly blessed this year! They are great people to work with & it is an honor for me to get to be a small part of this organization. When we get up at 3:30 AM or so on a Sunday morning to sing the greatest music that God can provide (Southern Gospel Music), I sometimes think of the comment our former Bass Singer, Charlie Drennan, used to say, "Man, you just gotta love this gospel music!"  'Til next time, keep all of us in your prayers & I will try to keep those bus wheels rolling.
